Viaggio nel meraviglioso mondo delle api
L’incontro tra le api e i bambini non è sempre idilliaco, ma se viene insegnato loro quanto è magico il mondo di queste piccole e preziose creature tutto cambia. Quest’anno è stato nuovamente possibile invitare a scuola la nostra amica apicoltrice per una splendida lezione all’aperto sulle api e sull’importanza che hanno per la vita sulla Terra.
I bambini e le bambine di Grade 2 hanno dimostrato enorme interesse ed entusiasmo già nella fase precedente all’incontro, quando insieme alle maestre hanno esplorato il mondo dell’alveare, scoprendo gran parte delle caratteristiche e delle curiosità sulle api.
Questo bellissimo viaggio è stato completato con l’arrivo della nostra ospite, che fa parte del consorzio friulano apicoltori, che ha mostrato loro una vera arnia con la cera e ha portato il miele fatto dalle sue api da assaggiare per rendere questo momento ancor più indimenticabile. Per i bambini è stata una gioia immensa e un viaggio che certamente non dimenticheranno!

Avventure tra le vigne!
Ci sono cose nella vita che si ricordano per sempre. Le regole di grammatica? A volte…
Le poesie imparate a memoria? Non sempre…
Le formule matematiche? Può darsi…
In verità ciò che davvero non si può dimenticare sono le emozioni legate alle esperienze ed è per questo che ai bambini di Grade 2 è stata proposta un’esperienza da condividere tutti insieme per dare inizio alle attività relative all’autunno: la visita ad una vigna! Lunedì 30 settembre, con gli zainetti pieni di entusiasmo e gli stivali colorati, ci siamo recati a Cormòns presso l’azienda della Cantina Produttori che ci ha ospitati per far fare ai bambini esperienza diretta della vendemmia e della pigiatura dell’uva con i piedi.
La nostra guida ci ha mostrato i macchinari con cui si produce il mosto, i grandi contenitori di acciaio in cui si trasforma in vino ed infine le botti in legno in cui viene affinato. Il momento più divertente ed entusiasmante è stato senz’altro quando abbiamo pigiato l’uva a piedi nudi come si faceva un tempo! La gioia e le risate dei bambini si sono diffuse tra i filari ed hanno accompagnato questa mattinata indimenticabile.

School trip to Apicoltura Comaro
Last week, the N3, N4 and K students went to visit the ‘Apicoltura Comaro’ honey farm. They had lots of fun learning about bees and how they make the delicious honey that we all love so much!
We learned as we listened closely to our guide, who skillfully explained to us the process of making honey. We also experienced many of the steps through hands-on activities that were very engaging for teachers and students: from touching and tasting pollen and honey, to watching how big machines are used to filter the honey from the honeycombs! The students found out that bees are amazing, hardworking creatures!
It was nice to hear the students’ comments later-on in the week whilst playing outside, about the importance of letting the bees wander freely on our playground without disturbing them. Many children in the ECC are now making links between the existence of bees and flowers and are beginning to understand the importance of protecting them.

Looking into their future
Grade 7 had the opportunity to visit the University of Udine where they were able to experience what life might be like after school. They started the day by listening to professors and students studying for their Ph.D. on topics such as combining science and technology. A tour around the university was a must – here they were able to see the library (they couldn’t believe how quiet everyone was studying), the large classrooms and the various different laboratories. Then, in the afternoon, they went to see the chemistry laboratories and the food technology centre. It was an excellent experience for them to see what their life might look like in their future and to see that the possibilities are endless. A special thank you to Ms Marcolongo for organising the tour – we had a great time.
