Fibonacci Day
The Students and teachers were very excited to welcome a team from Local TV channel UDINESE TV, who came to find out about our day dedicated to Leonardo Fibonacci, celebrated Italian mathematician and scholar famed for his studies on the Golden Ratio. The familiar shape seen everywhere in nature, the ‘Fibonacci Spiral’ is named after him.
From Grade 1 to Grade 8, the students explored all things Fibonacci from the mathematical implications of his discoveries to the beautiful artwork that can be produced using his the golden ratio.
The visit from Udinese TV was an opportunity for the students to demonstrate their knowledge and skills, both in the English and Italian languages, and for our whole school community to reflect on the symbolism of the Nautilus which features on our school logo.
The nautilus represents growth, balance, longevity and adaptability. As the shell grows larger the body always moves forward, never backward. New learning depends on a dynamic connection with previous knowledge.
This is the basis for our approach to learning across all of our schools at International Education Systems, as stated in our motto:
‘SAPIENTIA QUOD FACIENDUM FACIAM’
