Experience German! You learn it when you do it!
Bearing this principle in mind German lessons are focused on letting students “experience” their knowledge and making the new language meaningful to them with constant ‘hands-on’ activities.
Grade 6 students have learnt how to introduce themselves and to say what they like doing in their free time. They wrote their identity card in German, as well as a presentation on a “Teenie Forum” (an internal one, of course) in order to find new friends from all over the world. To practice free time activities, hobbies and sports we also played a pantomime game.
In Grade 7 we spoke about how the Fibonacci rules also apply to the solar system, and did a project about it. In order to comply with the “covid rules” the students worked on a shared document where each student presented a slide with the main information and trivia about one planet. Grade 7 also learnt about how to buy fruit and vegetables at the market.
Grade 8 students completed the topic about the media area and learnt to talk about computers, social media, music, TV and cinema and presenting a film review. They did some research finding out information about the film and its production and showed all their knowledge in expressing their opinion about the film, the actors, the plot and the characters using complex structures in German.
